Prepare for Project 2 !!
Our next project is due April 5th and it will be based on 'change' as it applies to what we have viewed so far in Rain Man.  It will have two parts:

1.  You all will watch a short video or hear a short audio recording on some aspect of 'change'.  Then I will give you each a question to answer based on what you saw/heard.  You will have 5-7 mins to outline your ideas and then 3-5 mins to answer the question you have been given.  (very similar to how we do speaking blogs)

2. I will give you a question from a number of possible questions about aspects of Charlie & Raymond's experiences in the movie.  (You will be able to 'study' and prepare for the questions ahead of time, although you will not know the exact question you will answer until  the day of the project.)  You will have 5-7 mins to outline your ideas and 3-5 minutes to answer your question.  You CAN bring you notes and chart of information we have discussed about the movie so far...but no other information, prior notes from home etc.

I will get a scoring rubric and requirements to all of you next class.  For now:  Here are the possible questions for which you can prepare:

1.     Discuss an example of a change in Charlie and an example of a change in Raymond.  What event or situation or event made each one change?  Give examples of personality characteristics that Charlie and Raymond had before and after they changed.

2.    In movies, each central character has a conscious goal which s/he outwardly strives for, but the story's opposition makes this goal nearly impossible to reach.  What goal does Charlie have?  What goal does Raymond have?  What interferes with each of their goals?

3.    There are a few personality traits that Charlie and Raymond share although they may be expressed in different ways. What is one characteristic the brothers have in common? Can you give two examples for each person?

4.    What are some ways in which Susanna’s relationship with Charlie AND Raymond are the same?  In what ways is it different?  Give specific scenes/events from the movie to answer your question.

5.    At this point in the movie, do you feel that Raymond is better off being with Charlie on a road trip, or being back at Wallbrook?  Give 3 examples from the movie to support your answer.

6.    At this point in the movie, do you think it was a good idea for Charlie to take him to Los Angeles? Why or why not? Give 3 specific examples to support your answer.

7.    A German proverb says:” to change and to change for the better are two different things.” Which part of this proverb is true for Charlie?  Which part of this proverb is true for Raymond?  (both parts could be true for each, if you can support your answer.)  Give two specific examples for each character.
